Japanese designer Koichiro Kimura was at Maison & Objet for the past five days to present his latest 100% recyclable furniture. Entirely made of polyethylene fibers, these singular looking furniture models make up great and very comfortable pieces. Below you can see more clearly the look of the fibers and how they let the furniture breathe, at the same time they can be very strong and malleable pieces.

Introducing their new Seletti wears Toiletpaper rug collection at this year’s Maison et Objet – January edition – the Italian brand gained a free pass into our “most out of the box stands” selection. Throughout the whole five days, there was not one person who didn’t stop to look or take pictures when they passed by this crazy pop culture inspired stand. It’s refreshing to see something so different, bold and unique. Below you can also see a more classic piece by Seletti: their little Mouse Lamps.

STUDIO SWINE

SWINE stands for Super Wide Interdisciplinary New Exploration. And behind this acronym are Japanese architect Azusa Murakami and English artist Alexander Groves. Studio Swine was featured this year at M&O as part of the UK nominated rising talents. As unique as it gets, the design studio explores themes of regional identity and the future of resources in the context of globalization. Studio Swine work manifests a deep research into materials and modern industrialization.

SILENCE WAS ALSO A STRONG PRESENCE AT M&O

Silence” was M&O’s theme for the year. For that reason, in Hall 7 – next to the Conference area – you could find a stunning and embracing scenography by Elizabeth Leriche. The idea was to remind people that “like a remedy to the interminable racket of words and images, silence has a calming effect on the hyperactive, garrulous and loud times we live in. Home is a place where calm is restored and a growing desire for serenity can be expressed. Lifestyle and style give us the ‘silent treatment’.”
