Joseph Dirand<\/a>\u00a0was always destined to embark in the world of\u00a0interior design<\/a>, as his father was the iconic\u00a0Jacques Dirand, one of the decor world\u2019s preeminent photographers. As soon as\u00a0Joseph Dirand<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0<\/a>laid eyes on the 2,600-square-foot space, with its picture-postcard view of Paris, he knew he\u2019d found what he\u2019d been looking for, and how he would make it his own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n \"DL<\/a>\n\n\n\n

Clearly, stone is\u00a0Joseph Dirand<\/strong><\/em>\u2019s preferred material. Walls, flat surfaces, baths are all in soft-tone stone or marble. As with all his commissions, he brought on his favourite artisans, who know how to execute his taste for details. Like the three majestic Massangis limestone-trimmed arches down the left side of the\u00a0entrance hall<\/strong>,<\/a> which give way to the sprawling\u00a0living\/dining room<\/strong>.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n \"Sinatra<\/a>\n\n\n\n

In the\u00a0kitchen<\/a><\/strong>, there is a vanilla-hued island carved from a hunk of\u00a0breccia stazzema<\/em>\u00a0marble he purchased directly from the quarry and saved for five years. He even employs\u00a0mineral materials<\/strong>\u00a0for key furnishings, such as the white travertine\u00a0dining table<\/strong>\u00a0and the Estremoz\u00a0coffee table<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through a neoclassical limestone pedimented doorway at the end of the\u00a0entrance hall<\/strong>\u00a0are the family\u2019s bedrooms. In the narrow hallway prowls a sleek bronze-and-gold lioness with auric eyes\u2014a sculpture by Harumi Klossowska de Rola, the daughter of Balthus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
