Sometimes the best client-designer relationships begin as friendships. Such was the case for creative craft influencer\u00a0Amy Tangerine\u00a0and architect\u00a0Dan Brunn\u00a0of DBA. After years of mutual admiration and several how-do-we-work-together conversations, an opportunity finally presented itself in the form of Amy\u2019s 1965 midcentury\u00a0Los Angeles hilltop home. Let\u2019s take a look at this incredible\u00a01960s Los Angeles home<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0with a\u00a0mid-century modern style<\/em><\/strong><\/a>\u00a0inspiration that is simply stunning!<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat I love most, is that the home doesn\u2019t feel like a gallery,\u201d Dan shares. \u201cWe never decided to make a particular wall behave in a certain manner, and because nothing was specifically planned out, this allowed Amy to have the best of both worlds.\u201d<\/p>\n

Since the existing\u00a0home<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a>was already a fully formed architectural expression, the team studied the original structure carefully. In the end, the focus became honoring what was there, while also combining DBA\u2019s distinct\u00a0design<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0language alongside Amy\u2019s unique point of view.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u200b\u200bI loved how the home had these inner atriums,\u201d explains\u00a0designer-architect<\/strong> Dan Brunn of the house of craft-influencer Amy Tangerine. \u201cIt set it apart from so many other homes, and I was intrigued with how to best capture that.\"Playful<\/a><\/p>\n

Amy loves how Dan designed the\u00a0kitchen<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and created a separate walk-in pantry. \u201cI also love it because it\u2019s a space where my husband\u2014who does most of the cooking\u2014really enjoys being in,\u201d Amy shares.<\/p>\n

Some of the other materials were purposefully period correct. \u201cWe sourced wood veneer for the\u00a0kitchen<\/strong><\/a>, which you\u2019d find in a period home; however, the creative interpretation is more\u00a0clearly modern<\/strong><\/a>,\u201d Dan explains. \u201cThe detailing for all plumbing throughout the house is done in a modern matte brass as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

The bar proved to be another area in which the\u00a0design team<\/strong>\u00a0was able to flex their creative muscles. \u201cAt the wet bar, we had a lot of fun with a company I work with often\u2014Concrete Collaborative,\u201d he says. \u201cWe sourced these really geometric concrete tiles for the backsplash, which add a nice\u00a0midcentury<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0nod to the space.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
