Are you curious to meet the designs of the year<\/em><\/strong>. The Design Museum in London has nominated 76 projects and products as this year\u2019s very best, displaying them in an exhibition that will be running until August the 23rd<\/sup>. The winners will be chosen later this year but for now, here you have our favorites.<\/p>\n

1 Architecture: Desert Courtyard House<\/strong><\/p>\n

Merging crisp, modern design moves with sustainability, this home in Arizona\u2019s Sonoran Desert was designed by Wendell Burnette Architects. It utilizes walls of rammed earth to connect visually to the surrounding landscape.<\/p>\n

2 Digital: Responsive Street Furniture<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the past few years, we\u2019ve seen designers testing the limits of mushroom-based furniture and lighting. And Ecovative is leading in the way as an innovator of the mouldable, compostable material.<\/p>\n

Currently at the prototype stage, this street furniture system would enhance accessibility for people with disabilities and impairments.<\/p>\n

3 Fashion: Rodarte AW14<\/strong><\/p>\n

Last spring, Norges Bank initiated a competition to revamp Norway\u2019s kroner bills, under the theme \u201cthe Sea.\u201d<\/p>\n

5 Product: \u201cGrow It Yourself\u201d Mushroom Materials<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mechanical engineer and industrial designer Sam Pearce may just have reinvented the wheel. His Loopwheels replaces a wheelchair\u2019s spokes with springs that allow manoeuvring of more rugged territory, thanks to the resulting bounce.<\/p>\n

6 Transportation: Loopwheels<\/strong><\/p>\n

One of the most whimsical of this year\u2019s nominees, Kate and Laura Mulleavy\u2019s autumn-winter 2014 clothing collection takes inspiration from a galaxy far, far away. Characterized by pop culture imagery, the garments feature the designers\u2019 childhood heroes: Luke Skywalker and C3PO, among other Star Wars faves.<\/p>\n

Split into six categories, the nominees were selected by an impressive jury chaired by Anish Kapoor. The winners of the 2015 Designs of the Year competition will be announced later this year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
