From now until fall 2016, the\u00a0design museum<\/strong><\/em> holon in Israel\u00a0introduces the first large-scale retrospective exhibition of\u00a0Japanese studio Nendo<\/em>. Prolonged from the ground to the upper levels of the museum, featuring pieces from the beginning of his career till nowadays, \u2018The space in between\u2019<\/em>\u00a0provides a mesmerizing experience that\u00a0surveys\u00a0the prolific practice of Nendo\u2019s founder Oki Sato.<\/p>\n

Created by Maria Cristina Didero, \u2018The space in between\u2019 gives a conceptual village of design objects and installation pieces in the gallery rooms. The visitors will have the opportunity to walk through a labyrinth of open-top display cases. Each one provides a\u00a0window into the creative process of the studio. The design show,\u00a0a collaboration between Nendo and Takeshi Yamamura \/Yamamura Sanzlavina architects,\u00a0features more than 70 works are divided into six categories of \u2018in between spaces\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u2018Design is something that you feel and enjoy,\u2019<\/em>\u00a0said Oki aSto.<\/p>\n

\u2018I want my pieces to talk for themselves. it is the small and the normal things that make it really special. whilst normal and small there is something very interesting, something always hidden in the gaps and space in between.\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n

An installation\u00a0has been realized in the museum\u2019s courtyard during the exhibition. \u2018In the shade\u2019 involves a sequence of\u00a0five free-standing screens built\u00a0from panes\u00a0of colored glass by glas italia and held in place by\u00a0caesarstone pedestals. Each podium has been arranged \u00a0to appear\u00a0as if\u00a0it is penetrating\u00a0the glazed\u00a0surface. This\u00a0installation evokes the feeling of being \u2018outdoors\u2019 while what lies behind the screen appears to be \u2018indoors\u2019.<\/p>\n
