Every year Maison et objet<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0decides who\u2019s the best and the most outstanding names in the design world (January and September). Ilse Crawford is one of those big choices. In September 2016, the British designer will receive the Designer of the Year award. As usual, Ilse will have the opportunity to showcase her big work in a space that is entirely dedicated to her. Maison & Objet\u00a0PARIS<\/span> honours one of the most successful interior designers in Britain. Ilse Crawford is named Designer of the Year for the September 2016 fair. She will be the very first Designer of the Year<\/strong> to handle the scenography of the Designers\u2019 Studio, in Hall 8.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ilse Crawford as began her career as a journalist and was the founding editor-in-chief of ELLE<\/span> Decoration UK. With over a decade in magazines, with a mission to put human needs and desires back at the centre of design, she founded her multi-disciplinary practice Studioilse in 2001.<\/p>\n

This sensitivity-driven approach is evident even in her earlier works, with the Soho House Group. For ten years, she lent her talents to this international network of exclusive private clubs, hotels, restaurants and spas. During that time, she also completed a great number of projects: a restaurant, Cecconi\u2019s, and the club of the Electric Cinema, both in London, the Babington House hotel in Somerset, the Soho House hotel, in New York City. All of them are evocative examples of her philosophy, to create environments where people feel comfortable, spaces that make sense for those that will use them \u2013 to create a frame for life.<\/p>\n

This idea, to enhance the human experience, she applies to public spaces, private homes, products and commercial projects. In 2008, for the first Aesop shop in London, she decided to focus on creating an intimate atmosphere, while highlighting the historical dimension of the building\u2019s architecture with thoughtful contemporary accents.<\/p>\n

Concept, interior architecture and design of a restaurant, bar, event space and terrace over two storeys that would be a home for the city\u2019s burgeoning art crowd. Key to its success is each area can adapt for different speeds and volumes and functions depending on the needs of its guests and the time of day.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The refurbishment of a Northern Italian restaurant and bar in the heart of Mayfair. Two contrasting restaurants \u2013 Matbaren and Matsalen, fast and slow, respectively \u2013 tied together with an impressive entrance in Stockholm\u2019s Grand Hotel. The intention with both dining spaces was to support and translate the Michelin starred chef\u2019s gastronomic philosophy.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

An installation in The Apartment in Copenhagen that sought to restore the domestic atmosphere in the 18th Century building. Bringing life and people to the enfilade of rooms was key and we teamed up with chef Frederik Bille Brahe to turn the kitchen into a pop-up restaurant for the duration of the three-month residency.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

A residential development in a former 1960s block in the Sheung Wan district consisting of five apartments, public spaces and the fa\u00e7ade. By opening the floorplans up, using real materials and maximising views over the gardens opposite, the building acquired a strong connection to the scale and soul of the local area.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
