The Australian architect Matt Gibson has designed the perfect minimalist house<\/em> <\/strong>in Melbourne! Shadow house is the name of this amazing project where the architect chooses to use\u00a0zinc cladding to distinguish this faceted structure\u00a0from the Edwardian residence it extends.<\/p>\n

This single-storey\u00a0extension is located a conservation area in\u00a0Melbourne\u2019s\u00a0Elsternwick neighbourhood, provides\u00a0living spaces, a guest bedroom and garage for the house<\/p>\n

Gibson borrowed some features from the historic houses surrounding the house and also\u00a0used dark zinc cladding to deliberately distinguish it from the brickwork of the existing\u00a0property.<\/p>\n

\"Meet \"Meet \u201cThe zinc-clad structure is seen as a recessive folded form from the street, set back, subordinate and\u00a0essentially in the shadow of the Edwardian brick structure,\u201d explained the Australian architect. \u201cRather than replicating and competing\u00a0with the character of the original house the new works are clearly distinguishable allowing the\u00a0heritage fabric to take on greater clarity,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

\"MeetThis minimalist house has some areas of red brickwork exposed inside the living spaces, large windows and folding glazing on the other side of the extension frame views out into the garden.<\/p>\n

\"Meet \u201cThe new works analyse, interpret and enter into the\u00a0spirit of the heritage building,\u201d said Gibson, \u201cAnd utilising technologies of our time provide a simplified\u00a0interpretation that is both contemporary and yet interactive, and respectful of its environment whilst\u00a0embracing the very tenants of Edwardian virtues \u2013 villa within a garden setting.\u201d<\/p>\n
