So,\u00a0HAO Design<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0has reorganised this family\u00a0home\u00a0in Taiwan so that residents have to walk through their garden to get inside, creating\u00a0the feeling of\u00a0\u201cwalking from the city into a country cottage\u201d. This Southern Sunshine Home is located in the Kaohsiung municipality of Taiwan. When brought on board to renovate the property, HAO Design first looked at the surrounding environment of the house \u2013 picking out its unique strengths. Enjoy!\"HAO<\/p>\n

\u201cWe assessed it and found four major advantages \u2013 a large yard, high roof, good natural light and a rectangular floor plan,\u201d said the architects.<\/p>\n

A solid wooden platform reminiscent of old Japanese structures was added to the entrance, allowing residents a place to sit and enjoy the garden view.

Inside, walls were removed to merge the old living room and dining room into one single, open space. The original entrance has been converted into a raised Japanese-style washitsu room. \u201cEven though the ceiling is slightly lower in the kitchen, it is connected to the living room, which gives the impression of a bigger space,\u201d said the architects.<\/p>\n

Portions of the ceiling were also removed, revealing the original sloping roof structure which is four metres high at its tallest point. \"HAO<\/p>\n

The house was originally made up of small individual spaces, meaning it received little natural light. \"HAO<\/p>\n

To counteract this issue, a skylight\u00a0was installed in the master bathroom, and the wooden front door was swapped for glass French doors. \"HAO<\/p>\n

The large yard became the focus for the architects, and they altered the original\u00a0approach by moving the entrance to the side of the house \u2013 meaning that, although residents need to walk around the house to get in, the first thing they see is the\u00a0yard.<\/p>\n

HAO Design was founded in 2013. It\u2019s past renovation worked include\u00a0installing\u00a0swings and a slide\u00a0in the kitchen of a family home\u00a0and adding a\u00a0wooden bridge-like corridor to connect a master bedroom with\u00a0a walk-in wardrobe in a house in Kaohsiung.<\/strong><\/p>\n
