With a minimal style, Pawson combain Scandinavian furnishing with\u00a0white surfaces and pale wooden floors to furnish his own\u00a0Notting Hill house. He says that\u00a0minimal style is\u00a0reflective of his own aesthetic tastes, rather than\u00a0a\u00a0proposal for an alternative, stripped-back\u00a0lifestyle.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t design what I do because I want to try and live the way it\u2019s telling me to,\u201d said Pawson to Dezeen, \u201cIt\u2019s just how I want things. It\u2019s a reflection of who I am and what I am.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis house was a chance to be our own clients,\u201d said the\u00a0architect couple. \u201cIt presented us with the opportunity to \u2018practice what we preach\u2019 to its fullest expression and create the Scenario House.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ran Ankory and Maya Carni added a glass-roofed extension to their family home, opening up the interiors and creating\u00a0a split-level reception space facing the garden. In the lower area \u00a0at the front of the house they create a\u00a0lounge,\u00a0and a more casual area for relaxing in front of a fireplace.<\/p>\n

Gwendolyn Huisman and Marijn Boterman\u00a0designed for themselves a house with hidden windows, black brick walls and a large indoor hammock feature in this\u00a0skinny house with\u00a03.4 metres wide and 20 metres deep.<\/p>\n

\u201cEach city has neglected spaces like this that are unused and underrated,\u201d the duo explained. \u201cThese gaps can be upgraded to complete the urban fabric, while giving it a boost and creating possibilities for new forms of urban living for the adventurous ones.<\/p>\n

Based on techniques developed in their furniture design, Tom and Danielle Raffield used\u00a0steam-bent timber \u2013 a traditional way of shaping timber using heat and moisture \u2013 to cover the extension to their home, which occupies an old gamekeeper\u2019s lodge.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019d never design anything that we wouldn\u2019t have in our own home, but we\u2019d never had a chance to design for our own space before,\u201d said Tom Raffield. \u201cWe wanted to build a house with the same consideration and attention to detail we put into our furniture and lighting.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jonathan Tuckey overhauled a\u00a019th-century London workshop\u00a0to create\u00a0a unique home for his family and their dog. He chose \u201csimple and everyday\u201d materials to rejuvenate the character of the building and added a series of playful elements to suit his children.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe house provides a variety of spaces that are at once fun for the younger members of the family, while at the same time providing a place of reflection and escape from the surrounding bustling and densely built up London streets,\u201d said the architect.<\/p>\n
