Born in 1980, Kareena is Randhir Kapoor<\/strong> and Babita<\/strong>\u2018s youngest daughter \u2013 both related to Bollywood as well. Her oldest sister \u2013 Karisma Kapoor \u2013 is also an actress. Her name proceeds Anna Karenina\u2019s due to her mother\u2019s pregnancy reading habits. Kareena\u2019s\u00a0exposure to films from a young age influenced her taste for the scenic arts. Unfortunately, her father disapproved her intentions of becoming an actress because for him, being an actress would interfere with her maternal duties. Babita was against this theory and, after several arguments, she and her husband got divorced. Kareena and her sister were then raised by their mother.\u00a0In an interview with journalist Vir Sanghvi, Kareena admitted that growing up with the two of them helped her become stronger and more independent.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Before becoming an actress, Kareena attended\u00a0Mithibai College for two years to study commerce, and then\u00a0a Summer course in microcomputers at Harvard Summer School. With time, she became interested\u00a0in Law and even attended college, but after the first year, Kareena gave up on Law and decided to start her so desired acting career<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

2000 was her premiere year as an actress with the film\u00a0Refugee<\/em>, and it couldn\u2019t have been better \u2013 Kareena received excellent critics with\u00a0Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama<\/em> describing her as \u201ca natural performer\u201d and he even noticed \u201cthe ease with which she emotes the most difficult of scenes\u201d. Despite being an average movie in terms of box-office success in India, Kareena\u2019s performance\u00a0made her win the\u00a0Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 her first award.<\/p>\n

While acting, Kareena\u00a0made several public appearances to support charitable organisations<\/strong>. She has also\u00a0performed at a fundraising for the World Youth Peace Summit in 2003,\u00a0and participated in a concert to raise money for the victims of the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami<\/strong>. Restlessly, Kareena has been involved in promoting children\u2019s education and women\u2019s safety<\/strong>.\u00a0In 2010, she took part in the international campaign 1GOAL Education for All<\/em> and was appointed ambassadress for the Shakti Campaign in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the International Women\u2019s Day.<\/p>\n

In January 2014, Kareena began working with UNICEF<\/strong> to fight for the education of girls<\/strong> and increase quality in education in India.\u00a0Along with UNICEF\u2019s India\u2019s Goodwill Ambassador, Sharmila Tagore, she hosted a charity dinner to help raise awareness for the increase of underprivileg kids<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

By the end of 2012, Kareena married Saif Ali Khan<\/strong> \u2013 also an actor. But it was only in 2007 that the two publicly confirmed their relation at\u00a0the Lakme Fashion Awards.\u00a0The ceremony took place in Bandra, Mumbai, and the reception was at The Taj Mahal Palace Hotel and the Lutyens Bungalow Zone. In a blog by The Wall Street Journal<\/i>, Rupa Subramanya described the marriage as India\u2019s \u201cwedding and social event of the year\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 so do we!<\/p>\n
