Not only do we love interior and lighting design, but we are also absolutely passioned about architecture. Mid-century architecture is, of course, at the center of our hearts, but this project by Archstudio<\/strong> has totally stolen our hearts this week. With a minimalist vibe, this contemporary home is the epitome of Chinese architecture<\/strong><\/em>, embodying everything that is special and gorgeous about that culture. Let\u2019s check out how Archstudio put together this beautiful project.<\/p>\n

Finished earlier this year, Twisting Courtyard \u2013 as Archstudio<\/a> creatively named it \u2013 is the result of a much-needed renovation on a\u00a0Siheyuan\u00a0with one single entry. The Beijing-based interior design studio was called to upgrade the infrastructure of the ancient home, providing it with the comfort needed for modern life. The result was an attractive public space of\u00a0Beijing\u00a0Inner City.<\/p>\n

This 161.5 m2 complex in Beijing features a red door that provides the single entrance for the modernized Siheyuan, which immediately reveals itself as a skilled exercise in flow.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe lines of the dominating gray brick and earthy oak panels direct the gaze in a\u00a0previous\u00a0loop of energy circulating throughout the different buildings, while meticulously carved out curves allow for a sense of elevation,\u201d\u00a0<\/em>explained the interior designer responsible for the project.<\/p>\n

Madeleine pendant lamp<\/a> is a minimalist lighting fixture handmade in brass<\/strong> and lacquered a matte white that would definitely look stunning in a modern dining room as the one pictured above.<\/em><\/p>\n

The curved wall that makes for the different heights of internal and external space conceals the siheyuan\u2019s kitchen, toilet, and warehouse.<\/p>\n

The balance of tones and materials provides unique calm to the transition from private to public, and from historic to present.<\/p>\n

Where the Siheyuan was once a tool for seclusion and introversion,\u00a0Archstudio<\/strong>\u00a0has taken it apart to repurpose it as a tool for extroversion and integration. All in all, Archstudio has created one of our favorite house designs of all the time, due to its unique forms and philosophy.<\/p>\n
