William Tozer Associates<\/strong> has redesigned an entires Victorian house<\/strong><\/em> in north London<\/strong>, introducing a white, modern living area that faces\u00a0out onto\u00a0a neighboring brutalist estate.\n

\"A\"dinings<\/a>The London-based firm has\u00a0refurbished and reconfigured this house in Highgate. Part of an Italianate terrace where behind it, you\u00a0can find\u00a0the Abbey Road housing co-op, and\u00a0the design was developed with that in mind.<\/p>\n

\"A<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

On the lower ground, there is\u00a0an open-plan kitchen, living and dining area that looks directly onto\u00a0the estate through floor-to-ceiling glazing.<\/p>\n

\"A<\/p>\n

\u201cThe modern intervention is articulated as a clean cut into the original building fabric, into which a sleeve of modern architecture is inserted,\u201d said the architects.<\/p>\n

\"A<\/p>\n

\u201cThe renovation creates a white and raw-concrete frame through which to view the neighboring building, visually recasting it as a found-object modern art installation,\u201d added the designers.<\/p>\n

\"A\"dinings<\/a>The tiled floor from the overhauled\u00a0house,\u00a0continues out onto the external courtyard, providing a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor living areas.<\/p>\n

\"A<\/p>\n

Retaining walls containing planters and steps leading to a raised terrace are cast in crisply detailed concrete to create a visual link to\u00a0the materiality of the brutalist buildings and the simplicity of the white cabinetry.<\/p>\n

The lower-ground level is\u00a0connected to the rest of the house by a staircase featuring open timber risers. These risers intersect with a glass balustrade, lending them a sense of weightlessness.\n
