One of Frank Lloyd Wright\u2019s<\/strong><\/em> residential designs will be donated to the School of Architecture at Taliesin. The nautilus-like 1952 David and Gladys Wright House<\/strong> was designed 85 years ago and the donation will allow\u00a0school administrators, professors, students, and visiting scholars to live at the home and become artists in residence.<\/p>\n

Built in the Arcadia neighbourhood of Phoenix, Arizona, in 1952, this spiral-plan property<\/strong>\u2018s owner Zach Rawling was donated in the day that Wright\u2019s 150th birthday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe gift of the David Wright House to benefit the school will expand the school\u2019s footprint into the heart of Phoenix, and celebrate the legacy of the David Wright House as an instructive environment for the experience and learning of architecture,<\/em>\u201d reads\u00a0a joint statement from\u00a0Rawling and School of Architecture at Taliesin dean Aaron Betsky.<\/p>\n

This incredible house was built from concrete blocks<\/strong> and its elevated curving form is accessed via a spiralling ramp<\/strong> that only ends up in the roof. The interior design of this amazing house is filled with mid-century furniture<\/strong> that features a dazzling colourful\u00a0rug.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

The structure remained a family home until 2008. In 2012, developers threatened to demolish, but fortunately, Rawling bought the property with plans to turn it into a museum.<\/p>\n

Now, the house will be \u201cformally gifted to a new supporting organisation of the Arizona Community Foundation for the benefit of the School of Architecture at Taliesin<\/em>\u201c.\u00a0\u201cThe new organisation will own the house and manage the endowment for the benefit of the school, while the school will operate the property, educational curriculum and all community and cultural activities,<\/em>\u201d said Rawling and Betsky.<\/p>\n
