Inside Sandy and David Wasco New Oscar-Winning Mid-Century Modern Home In California

The world fall in love with Sandy and David Wasco after their incredible work in the “La La Land” movie set that ends up winning the Oscar for the best production design in 2017. With a unique signature style, the famous couple just remodeled their California escape with some inspiring mid-century modern design ideas, Let’s take a look, shall we?
Sandy and David Wasco have worked with some of the most renowned directors in the Hollywood movie scenario, such as Quentin Tarantino, Wes Anderson, and Damien Chazelle. The couple is famous for taking control of every nuance of mood, views, and atmosphere in the films they design. However, when they were looking for a home eight years ago, their priority was a view that was anything but static. The 1956 mid-century project that they saved and restored overlooks the ocean, the horizon, and the sky, including the Santa Cruz Island. With some trendy design ideas and creative color combinations, we can say that this home design could win an award for the most inspiring residential projectof the year!
Using natural materials and period-appropriate furnishings, Sandy and David Wasco surely made anincredible design to their 1966 bungalow project in Santa Barbara, California. The 1956 ranch-style home project was designed in 1956 by the architect Robert Ingle Hoyt and restored by architect Brian Hart, who kept some of the original features, such as the home’s bright windows.
Inside the mid-century modern living room, a custom sofa from Ten10 and a pair of lounge chairs by Milo Baughman surround an Eames cocktail table covered in gold leaf. Sandy and David Wasco decided to go for a clean natural look, with a neutral color palette and some hardwood details!
The open space concept between the dining and living area gives to Sandy and David Wasco’smid-century home a clean and airy look. The dining space features some of the best collections by top luxury brands, such as Kartell table is by Ferruccio Laviani, the chairs are by Gio Ponti, and custom pendant light.
As you step inside the den area, a Jørgen Rasmussen chair pulls up to a Milo Baughman desk, two incredible products that have that vintage style vibe. Next to them, Sandy and David Wasco decided to place a Jacob Jacobsen floor lamp for Luxo, camp chair, Takeshi Nii side table, and bar cart are all vintage.
Last but not least, Sandy and David Wasco master suit! Featuring the same color themes and natural details as the rest of themid-century modern home, the Hollywood couple decided to go with a bed design by Axel Bloom, combined with the Gio Ponti chair prototype and the ’60sfloor lamp is by Joe Colombo for Stilnovo.
