Born on June 21st of 1891, Pier Luigi Nervi was a distinguished Italian civil engineer, that became one of the most iconic architecture legends thanks to its contribution to several important projects. He studied at the University of Bologna, where he got his degree in 1913, and later taught engineering at the University of Rome “La Sapienza”, from 1946 to 1961. Pier Luigi Nervi was one of Carlo Donati‘s architecture idols!
Born in Milan, Gio Ponti is considered to be one of the most iconic personalities in the Italian design and architecture industries. Graduated in architecture in 1921 from the Polytechnic of Milan, the famous Italian personality set up a studio with architects Mino Fiocchi and Emilio Lancia in Milan. From 1936 to 1961 he was a permanent professor at the Faculty of Architecture at the Polytechnic of Milan and in 1952 he was partnered with the architect Alberto Rosselli. Gio was one of Carlo Donati‘s architecture idols and an inspiration to create this brand new collection!
Completed in 1961, the Palazzo dell Esposizioni Internazionale del Lavoro, better known as Palazzo del Lavoro or Palazzo Nervi, is considered to be one of the most iconic architecture pieces in Italy since it was created by two of the country’s mostfamous design legends. Located in the Nizza Millefonti district, at the southern gates of the city of Turin, the geometrical inspiration, which you can find in Carlo Donati‘s new lighting piece for Essential Home, truly represents the unique style of the renowned engineer Pier Luigi Nervi and the iconic architect Gio Ponti.
