At the 2016 Venice architecture biennale, the photographer Nelson Garrido has shown the effect of Portugal crisis in the architecture of the all country. The beginning of the financial crisis, started four years ago, halted the construction of new houses, while many others in-progress were left unfinished.
Over the last four years, Nelson has been documenting the architectural and urban evidence of the financial crisis of the country. He presented the results of this evidence as part of an exhibition titled ‘time – space – existence’ at palazzo Bembo.

The photographer explores spaces and residential projects that were neglected and forgotten in Portugal after the financial depression. In every image, Garrido represents the human element personified as light, ‘can this light represent the existence? Is this a game between reality and simulation?’ asked Garrido.
The project, named “home less”, seeks to provide an intimate experience of each of the hauntingly abandoned places, the soft light in each image seeks to remind the viewers what reality is and what it should be!
