This Madrid apartment got itself a new life when the spanish design studio Lucas y Hernández-Gil took it on its hands. They completely revamped the place, ending up with a new layout, a new kitchen, and some new slick oak and marble surfaces. Another great element? Color! Located in a 19th-century building overlooking the well-known “Retiro Park” in the heart of the spanish capital, House 03 – as it is called – home makeover was thought to fit a couple and their four young children. The designers and architects took advantage of the beautiful park views when creating the new layout, as well as integrate the kitchen area into the main social space.

The architects at Lucas y Hérnandez-Gil removed all the usual compartmentalizing walls in order to create an open-plan living, dining and study room. The rooms feel more connected, with a much more harmonious vibe throughout the house.

The arrangement that we found was fully compartmentalized and constantly changed,” said the architects. “We modified the space for a clear and open one with light in every room.
