If you ask any Indian about Bollywood, the name Kapoor will be there. Since 1929 the family is present in the Hindi film industry thanks to Prithviraj Kapoor. 88 years have passed, and many were the family members who perpetuated Prithviraj’s legacy, including his grand-granddaughter Kareena. Today, Kareena Kapoor counts with many films – and awards – in her career, and is, undoubtedly, India’s sweetheart. Keep reading and find out why we love the Bollywood actress.

Born in 1980, Kareena is Randhir Kapoor and Babita‘s youngest daughter – both related to Bollywood as well. Her oldest sister – Karisma Kapoor – is also an actress. Her name proceeds Anna Karenina’s due to her mother’s pregnancy reading habits. Kareena’s exposure to films from a young age influenced her taste for the scenic arts. Unfortunately, her father disapproved her intentions of becoming an actress because for him, being an actress would interfere with her maternal duties. Babita was against this theory and, after several arguments, she and her husband got divorced. Kareena and her sister were then raised by their mother. In an interview with journalist Vir Sanghvi, Kareena admitted that growing up with the two of them helped her become stronger and more independent.
Before becoming an actress, Kareena attended Mithibai College for two years to study commerce, and then a Summer course in microcomputers at Harvard Summer School. With time, she became interested in Law and even attended college, but after the first year, Kareena gave up on Law and decided to start her so desired acting career.
2000 was her premiere year as an actress with the film Refugee, and it couldn’t have been better – Kareena received excellent critics with Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama describing her as “a natural performer” and he even noticed “the ease with which she emotes the most difficult of scenes”. Despite being an average movie in terms of box-office success in India, Kareena’s performance made her win the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut – her first award.
While acting, Kareena made several public appearances to support charitable organisations. She has also performed at a fundraising for the World Youth Peace Summit in 2003, and participated in a concert to raise money for the victims of the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami. Restlessly, Kareena has been involved in promoting children’s education and women’s safety. In 2010, she took part in the international campaign 1GOAL Education for All and was appointed ambassadress for the Shakti Campaign in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the International Women’s Day.
In January 2014, Kareena began working with UNICEF to fight for the education of girls and increase quality in education in India. Along with UNICEF’s India’s Goodwill Ambassador, Sharmila Tagore, she hosted a charity dinner to help raise awareness for the increase of underprivileg kids.
By the end of 2012, Kareena married Saif Ali Khan – also an actor. But it was only in 2007 that the two publicly confirmed their relation at the Lakme Fashion Awards. The ceremony took place in Bandra, Mumbai, and the reception was at The Taj Mahal Palace Hotel and the Lutyens Bungalow Zone. In a blog by The Wall Street Journal, Rupa Subramanya described the marriage as India’s “wedding and social event of the year” – so do we!
Her natural beauty is undeniable! Indian media has even marked her lips as her statement feature. For many years, Kareena has been the cover of renowned fashion magazines, such as Vogue India and Harper’s Bazaar India.
