3D House Design Taken to the Next Level: Apple’s AR App!
It was only a few weeks ago that during Apple’s Worldwide Developer’s Conference, the tech giant announced they are developing an app tool based on the augmented reality technology, which allows us to insert 3D virtual objects into the real sets of our daily lives. Two days later, the Swedish furniture chain IKEA revealed that they are working together with Apple on this new AR-based shopping app that is slated to launch in autumn 2017. What does this mean? It means that 3D house design is about to be taken to the next level and you get to know all about it now!
This new mobile AR-app will help IKEA customer visualize what products will look like in their own homes, before purchasing. And although IKEA is pioneering this experience in the interior design world, the tool developed by Apple will be available to be used by software developers, which means it won’t be long until we see other major brands and interior designers adopt this state of the art technology.
“This will be the first augmented reality app that will enable you to make buying decisions,” said Michael Valdsgaard, leader of digital transformation at IKEA Systems.
“I think that augmented reality and virtual reality will be a total game changer for retail in the same way as the internet,” said Valdsgaard. “Only this time much faster.”
In practical terms, what all of this means is that by having the app on your phone, you will be able to see how the furniture looks in the actual space you are planning on putting it. This will most likely reduce those impulse-driven purchases and help customers create spaces which are more thought of and more planned.
“By getting access to Apple’s technology and specialist knowledge in the area of augmented reality we can gain speed in the development of new innovative tools for our customers,” stated Valdsgaard.
Meanwhile, architect Greg Lynn, who used Microsoft HoloLens to design his contribution to the US Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale, has come to say that AR will revolutionize the architecture and construction industries.
And, who knows, maybe in a near future you will also be able to purchase and pick the best DelightFULL and Essential Home pieces for your interiors using the amazing technology. It will help you understand which lamp best suits your interiors and which finishes are the best for your home decor!
