The Good Place Series. A good way to start right? When it comes to finding the unique ways to bring humour to our TV addiction, Michael Schur surely does his job. With outstanding TV shows like Parks and Recreation and Brooklyn 99, The Good Place presents us with the best: the picturesque living style, the almost imperceptible visual humour and the best writing filled with plot twists.

The vision of the Afterlife is very subjective. When in Heaven, yoghurt ice cream must be a must-have right? That’s what Dan Bishop thought. The production designer of TV hit shows such as Mad Men and Parks and Recreation is the responsible one for The Good Place’s vision of the afterlife. And we sure have to thank him for it!
The outdoor decor scenes, filmed in the lush Huntington Gardens in Pasadena, Michael Schur tells that this is “the closest you can get to heaven.” When speaking of Eleanor’s house, the main protagonist, this was set-out to be the place you want to live in but would actually hate living in. Curious right?
“Eleanor’s house is utopia for someone,” Schur tells. “All of the furniture is very aesthetically pretty but it looks really uncomfortable to sit on. It’s like when you go to someone’s house who has the exact opposite vibe as you, and you’re like, ‘God if I had to live here I would kill myself.’”
Furthermore, when it comes to humour, the writing seems to be equally as creative. From the disposal, fancy, floating touch screens to a robot named Janet, there’s also a place for classic-rock references and prepositional phrases into every episode.
The picturesque neighbourhood filled with secrets, tells us a different story. The simple and dreamy place that you would want to spend your time in isn’t always what expects you. With an incredible cast, the actors are diverse and bring a range of emotion from one episode to the other. A mysterious way to bring comedy and a mystery together like no other.
One of the curious aspects of this hit TV show was its inspiration. A good-hearted comedy that combines the most used jokes to the bristling, intelligent humour it’s a wonder that this TV show was inspired by another hit: Lost.
