Dior surprised at PFW 2020 with a new well-thought feminine collection, showing that luxury design and fashion also support huge social causes! (SEE MORE)
Thanks to the #MeToo movement, which originated after more than 80 employees, models and actresses accuse producer Harvey Weinstein of sexual misconduct, the feminine sensuality started to be redefined in fashion and luxury design. Living proof of that is that the luxury design brand presented a unique collection during Paris Fashion Week 2020, where the feminist concept took the center stage!

It was even thought that this change in the behavior of the textile industry would have been only a passing trend, but, after the founder of Miramax was formally convicted of sexual assault and rape, Dior showed that the fight for women’s rights is still alive on the catwalks. This unique and inspiring collection is the combination of the best luxury design trends and an incredible concept!

Although the world is focusing on Weinstein’s verdict, Maria Grazia Chiuri remembers that the fight for women’s rights is far from over. How? You might ask. Well, after funding a feminist art show in Rome, Christian Dior’s creative director decided to wage war on patriarchy in her brand new show during Paris Fashion Design Week 2020. All of the runway set was created to have an impact on the show’s attendees, including the entrance! Dior‘s guests were greeted with the words “I say I” at the door of the tent installed in Jardim das Tuileries.

As you step inside the Dior’s runway set, the first thing that you see was the several slogans suspended throughout the interior design project. Neon signs with the expressions “Patriarchate = Climate Emergency”, “Patriarchate = Repression”, “We are all clitoral women” and “Consent” guided the unique decoration of the space, finished with newspaper pages on the floor.

As for the collection itself, Dior’s surprised its guest with some unique haute-couture pieces that crossed the boundaries of what is considered fashionable by the industry, setting a brand new design trend. While designing the new collection, Maria Grazia took inspiration from a box of photographs of her adolescence, when the battle for women’s rights intensified in Italy, with debates about divorce and abortion. “At the time, it was important for women to have the freedom to change their style because they wanted something really comfortable for the body,” she explained to WWD. One thing is for sure, all of these unique designs featured one thing in common: the luxurious black color!
