3. Tribeca Edition by Søren Rose Studio
Søren Rose Studio gave life to this series of New York-inspired, limited-edition lamps called ‘Tribeca Edition 1?. With a noticeable industrial flair, the striking, six-piece collection is composed of handmade brass pendant lamps, all of which have been assembled from vintage parts found in the US.
4. Cumberland lamps by Studio Dunn
A pure and simple abstraction of a classic lamp form. This design is handblown by experienced artisans using traditional glass working methods in a hot glass studio also known as a ‘hot shop’. After the glass cools the piece is handworked with wet grinding wheels and the electrical parts installed. Cumberland emits pleasant ambient light which illuminates the beauty of the handmade design and its surroundings.
5. Modo Chandelier by Roll & Hill
The Modo Chandelier is inspired by off-the-shelf parts like those found at inexpensive lighting stores on Canal Street in New York. The hub-and-spoke system allows Modo to be configured in dozens of different ways. But unlike the off-the-shelf parts, Modo parts are painstakingly engineered and custom CNC-milled from solid aluminum in order to create a luxurious and bespoke chandelier.
6. Luminosity by Tom Dixon
British designer Tom Dixon has developed the lighting showcase ‘Luminosity’ to be displayed at Museo Nazionale Della Scienza e Della Tecnologia’s MOST important design festival for Milan Design Week 2012. The collection of new lamps, lights and shades explore the potential of natural and artificial light in the future of lighting design. One of the pieces that was featured in this collection was the abstract sphere lampshade, ‘etch web’.
‘Etch web’ is 65cm wide and possesses an irregular pentagonal motif repeated throughout the surface of the orb. The smoothness of the sphere is interrupted in a methodical pattern as the smallest point of the diamond-like forms join in groups of five, creating a raised point where all of these parts meet. The futuristic metallic orb shade has been developed to cast angular shadows when the light inside is on.
7. Plumen 001 by Plumen
The PLUMEN 001 is the world’s first designer low energy light bulb. The dynamic, sculptured form contrasts with the dull, regular shapes of the existing low energy bulbs in an attempt to make the Plumen a centrepiece, not an afterthought. 8. Semi Pendant Lamp by GUBI
Classic and simple, it flows smoothly in an office, colourful children’s room or in the kitchen – the Semi Pendant lamp from Gubi fits perfectly in every scnario with its curved design. It also has an impressive effect in a group.
The Semi pendant lamp was a reaction to the trend of comfort in Danish design in the 1960s. The designers Claus Bonderup and Torsten Throup fought against this trend by designing this lamp with incorporated sharp, clean lines and a geometric shape.
