Unique Blog Was at Clerkenwell Design Week and This is What Happened

Clerkenwell Design Week started yesterday and it will be happening until tomorrow, the 25th of May. But today we took some time from our busy schedule at Covet London to roam the streets and find out what is happening in the London interior design scene. So, after one underground and two overground trips with extreme heat both on the streets and the subway lines (what is happening, London?), we finally arrived at Clerkenwell! We were greeted with colorful streets dressed up in pink to celebrate design, and we couldn’t be happier to be a part of this amazing Design Week. So up we went, looking for the best and most inspiring showrooms we could find. Now, we have made a selection of some of our favorite spots at the Clerkenwell Design Week so you don’t have to make that list yourself!

Lighting, and especially contemporary lighting, were everywhere at the Clerkenwell Design Week. Pretty much everywhere we looked, we would see different and unique lighting designs. The three lamps you can see in the photo below are just some of those which caught our attention. The minimalist design resembles the one from the timeless Serge Mouille’s lamps and we just couldn’t take our eyes off of them!

Still in the same stand, we could see other lighting designs, but this time made of resin. Resin is material that is gaining more and more followers, and that we could see featured in multiple other furniture designs across the various showrooms we went through.

Other unique graphic lighting designs could be seen in the multiple exhibitions we went in. One of the designs that caught our attention was by Max Kasymov, an interior design studio that will open its doors in Fulham Road London very soon. We believe it is definitely worth checking out!

Much more than lighting, we were also lucky to see nordic-inspired furniture design by Max Kasymov. With a music-inspired theme going on in the stand, you can imagine how much we loved this brand…

Going in on the more high-end and luxury interior design side of things, Clerkenwell really does have a lot to offer. After strolling around a bit more, we were lucky enough to find a London-based handcrafted furniture design studio displaying their pieces – Michael Northcroft. As we went in, we could see people experimenting with the chisel, trying to understand how such an intricate detail can be made and put on all of those high-end furniture pieces. After talking to the designer, we got to know that all the pieces are handmade in London, with materials brought in from Italy, ensuring the quality of everything that the brand delivers. You can see below one of their most coveted pieces.

We also stopped at Poliform, which was partnering up with Pulpo, a lighting design brand that we know very well, and which we absolutely adore. Although not displaying that many pieces, we loved the ones that were in fact on display, showing the luxurious side of the brand perfectly mixed with the contemporaneity that people look for these days.

Another brand that you might be familiar with, and which we made sure to stop by was Interna UK. Having just opened their UK office, Interna was located in an amazing pop-up showroom. In what is the home to one of their clients, Interna UK brought in their luxurious furniture pieces to create an inspiring setting, filled with their high-end and sophisticated vibe. As we went in, we were greeted with the most wonderful glass ceiling, which opened up to let the light and the warmth of the day come in as it wished. Two of the pieces that really caught our attention belonged to ‘Collection Président’, Lecci coffer being on our top three favorite pieces displayed at Clerkenwell Design Week!

Going back to the more Scandinavian and nordic-inspired furniture, we were able to find Dare Studio. A family business, filled with love and inspiration, which was brought to life by two siblings who just couldn’t ignore their love for fine interior design. All the materials and colors used were just too beautiful to be ignored, so we had to step in and absorbe it all.

As we’ve mentioned above, resin is definitely a huge hit these days, and we were able to find even more furniture designs that featured this material as their main accent element. For example, this mid-century modern sideboard immediately caught our attentive eyes, and as we approached the stand we immediately realized that the top was finished with worked resin to create the most beautiful effect. Because marble is not always the only solution for your countertops…

One of our last stops was at this lovely little stand in one of the Clerkenwell streets. We were just absolutely mesmerized by these stunning cushions. The top ones have got a bit of a fringe, very popular these days. And all the other cushions and fabrics were just adorable and very worth considering for a modern home!

After stopping by at One Nine Eight Five, we strolled around some more. And our final conclusion regarding this year’s Clerkenwell Design Week is that one of the most obvious and celebrated interior design styles is definitely the Scandinavian style. People seem to love it more and more, these days. Brands and interior design studios are adapting their designs to meet their client’s expectations, and we couldn’t be more in love with this trend!

Thank you for a wonderful time! See you next year, Clerkenwell!
