1. Best Picture.
Well, of course, we’re starting with this category. One of the most awaited of the night, we can’t help but place our bets on what will win the best picture of the night. With stunning characteristics, drama, comedy, style, and fashion all wrapped in one, we can’t wait to get our hands on the winner! Here’s the one that had us fall in love:
Call Me By Your Name
As we’ve mentioned in one of our Inside The Screen’s article, this book based movie has us in the palm of our hand from the beginning. Beautiful actors, an amazing director and even better screenplay, the coming of age movie is officially one of the fan favorites. What made us fall in love? The beautiful landscapes of Italy, the incredible attention to detail and the amazing performances: meaning: the pear incident.
Get Out
The thriller and mystery movie, Get Out was honestly a really good surprise to us. We need to be honest: what really caught our love was the incredible movie poster. As a lover of the horror and terror genre, this movie was all we could think about for weeks. All in all, this Oscar nominee has everything we could ever hope to have: The debut of a new filmmaker, a refreshing new genre, the phenomenal artist that is Daniel Kaluuya, and the mix of laughter with the occasional spasms of fear. It’s no wonder, that the director and writer, Jordan Peele is also nominated for best director!
The Shape of Water
The BAFTA’s have spoken and this time, Guillermo del Toro has won the best director category. As one of our favourite directors, we can’t help but be a little subjective no matter what. As a profound lover of Pan’s Labyrinth, The Shape of Water is just as refreshing and wholesome as we could ever hope to be. A unique plot in a unique setting, this modern age fairytale is one of the marvelous and flawless fables of Guillermo del Toro, that clearly doesn’t disappoint.
2. Best Actor
When it comes to leading gentlemen, the 2018 Oscar Nominees are also to be wondered by. An incredible selection of young and fresh talent is among the race to win this prized award. It must feel incredible, having the one and only Oscar in their homes! With no more waiting, we present you the ones we most appreciate.
Daniel Kaluuya
The leading men of Get Out, the talent of Daniel Kaluuya wasn’t dismissed. As one of the youngest nominees with only 28, the young Londoner faces fierce competition as Timothee Chalamet, Call Me By Your Name, and Daniel Day-Lewis are the ones on the run as well. Still, we have faith – can you tell he’s our fan favourite? – .
Timothee Chalamet
Fresh blood is one the run on this year’s run. As one of the stars of the movie that has been conquering the world since it came out, Timothee Chalamet of Call Me By Your Name, with only 22 is on the prestige elite of the leading men running for the prize.
3. Best Actress
We couldn’t let this get out without mentioning the leading ladies of this year’s run. Fierce competition, intense talent and unbelievable performances, all these leading actresses deserve an award and a round of applause of their own.
Frances McDormand
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. The names speak for itself. As one of the most powerful movies on the run for Best Supporting Actor, Best Original Screenplay, Best Orignal Score and others, the movie has the honors of having such a powerful and talented actress as the leading lady. The winner of the BAFTA, could the previsions be right?
Saoirse Ronan
A true 90’s kid, Saoirse Ronan had the role of a lifetime in Lady Bird. Presenting a world of discovery and the self, this incredibly talented actress presents the world the view of a normal teenager in this time and day. With strong characters and powerful writing this coming of age movie centers all the doubts that we had when we were growing up all in one. A must see.
4. Best Screenplay
Lady Bird
Written by Greta Gerwig, this incredible magical portrait of adolescence had us in admiration. With several similarities between the writer and the character, Gerwig claims that “Lady Bird is a flawed heroine that I invented.” She adds, “Even though I start with things that are close to me, they so quickly spin out and become their own characters”. She described Lady Bird as “the girl I wished I could’ve been, in a way”.
5. Best Adapted Screenplay
The Disaster Artist
The lovely brothers Franco had us up and the world, in flames with this project. A powerful production that had us so surprised as relished this movie is an ode to bad taste and dubious intention. As The Disaster Artist came to sweep the Hollywood crowd, the dramedy of this movie based on real-life events came and went and left its impression on the world. Just like the real movie, this is a cult classic waiting to happen.
6. Best Costume Design
Beauty & The Beast
The fairytale came to life and Beauty and The Beast has won our hearts from the beginning of the production. As a lover of the work of Dan Stevens and Emma Watson, the movie that has captured our hearts since our childhood, the costume design production surely deserves a round of applause if it doesn’t win the Oscar.
7. Best Production Design
Blade Runner 2049
One of the most awaited movies of 2017, Blade Runner 2049, is on the run for the Best Production Design. The dystopian sequel of the cult classic Blade Runner, this was the one to make the Italian set decorator Alessandra Querzola, nominated for her work on Blade Runner 2049. In tandem with the production designer Dennis Gassner points that this retro sci-universe was a group effort.
